Michael's Peace Corps contract ends soon, and Rachel starts high school next year, so we're beginning our good-byes to Dakar. We just got the definite decision about ten days ago that we'll be leaving. We've finished telling our staff, Rachel has told her friends, and I've told Suffolk. We'll leave with such tenderness for Senegal and all the people we've met here. We have been so happy here.
Where are we going?
We don't know yet. Rachel is applying to a wonderful high school in Portland, Oregon. I am applying for jobs. And Michael, always employable, just continues working full time, full speed with all the Peace Corps volunteers he keeps healthy and happy.
Hello there Amy! I've been thinking about you a lot recently wondering how you've been. For some reason, I just knew that this was your last year in Dakar too so I'm not surprised about the news. I hope you enjoy your last few months there. I know how much of an impact you and Michael have had in the lives of many but mostly everyday Senegalese people who have come into contact with you. Think about stopping through Chicago sometime this summer. We would love to host you at our house. Plenty of things to do. Big hugs from us stateside!

It will be exciting if Portland works out. We can dog-sit if you need help on that front. And you guys can always stay here while you take some time to figure out where in the city to live. Portland has changed a lot in the last 10 years. There's also a beautiful/artsy/dog-friendly hotel in downtown Portland if you want a day or two of beauty. We also came across a fun doughnut shop downtown called Voodoo Donuts, if you're looking for something in an over-the-top sweet category. Hope you get news from the schools sooner rather than later.
